Dakota Fanning i "Wizard of Oz" efterfølger?

Filmen bliver noget anderledes end sædvanlig.

Ifølge Daily Express, forhandler Dakota Fanning (War of the Worlds) i øjeblikket om at spille hovedrollen i en ny film inspireret af legetøj skabt af Todd McFarlane, manden bag "Spawn".

"It will be set in the present day and feature Dorothy's granddaughter," fortæller producer Basil Iwanyk (Clash of the Titans). McFarlane tilføjer: "You've still got Dorothy trapped in an odd place, but she's much closer to the Ripley character from Alien [Sigourney Weaver] than a helpless singing girl."

Manuskriptforfatteren Josh Olson (A History of Violence) arbejder på at inkorporere legetøjet og gøre det mindre.. grotesk. "I saw those toys, and Dorothy as some bondage queen isn't something I want to do," siger han. "The appealing thing about the Baum books to me is how wildly imaginative they are. There are crazy characters from amazing places. I want this to be 'Harry Potter' dark, not 'Seven' dark."
